This altar set consists of a blessing cross and two separate detchable stands (a plain one and one decorated with beads and embossed ornaments). Perhaps carried in procession, it may be placed next to the altar (behind the Candelabrum) to serve as the altar cross, in which case it ought to be the only cross used; otherwise it is put away in a dignified place. The altar cross is symbol of the church's authority. To us the cross is a reminder that the Eucharist is related to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
