Velvet Set of Armenian-Style Priestly Vestments

TAILORING FEATURES >>>

• a set of vestments, which is hand-tailored in polyester velvet fabric in the color of your choice
• an unlined sticharion (alb/ tunic), which is hand-tailored in the color of your choice
• a phelonion (cape), an epitrachelion (stole), cuffs and a zone (belt) fully-lined in satin of your choice to ensure proper draping and long life
• an epitrachelion, cuffs and a zone with a soft interlining
• a stiff collar (that matches the cape in fabric and color) with a white cotton piece attached and ribbons which allow the collar to be worn by crossing the ribbons to the front and then tying them in back
• all crosses/icons are appliques, which are machine-embroidered with golden-metallic/silvery-metallic threads and hand-decorated with beads
• a set of vestments decorated with 13 appliques: one large cross on the cape, a medium cross (optional: an embroidered icon) in the center of the collar, two more small crosses on the collar, two small crosses on the cuffs, six small crosses on the stole and one small cross on the belt
• a set trimmed with golden/silvery galloon and golden/silvery accents (buttons, fringe, etc)

CLEANING AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS >>>

To clean the silk-brocade components: dry-cleaning recommended; all embroidered appliques must be removed prior to cleaning.
To clean the alb: wash at low temperatures; use soft detergents; do not bleach.
To dry the alb: either tumble-dry, or turn inside-out and hang inside a closet; do NOT expose to direct sunlight while drying.
To iron the alb: Iron occasionally and at low temperatures.

PRODUCT INCLUDES >>>

This Armenian-style liturgical vesture consists of a cape, a tunic (alb), a stole, a belt, cuffs, and a collar. Because all garments are individually hand-tailored, small variations in design, color and pattern should be expected.

Tunic or shabig (alb)
The tunic is a long white shirt that reaches the ankles. It is often embroidered at the hem, sleeves and neckline. Its white color is a symbol of purity of heart, just like the white that is worn by the newly-baptized. Records show that in the third century, white was a preferred color for priestly vestments.

Poroorar or stole
This long stole has a hole for the neck and is, in actuality, the Deacon's stole that has been draped around the neck and sewn up in the center. It symbolizes righteousness.

Kodi or belt
A fabric belt matching the cape that is worn over the poroorar. A symbol of the strength of faith and the priestly authority of binding and loosing.

Pazban or cuffs
These wide cuffs are the same material as the cape and are worn over the shabig on the forearms. They symbolize strength and moral cleanliness as well as the hard work and penitence required in the Lord's service.

Vagas or collar
The stiff wide collar matches the cape in fabric and color. A long linen piece and ribbons allow the collar to be worn by crossing the ribbons to the front and then tying them in back. It has come to symbolize obedience and the yoke of Christ. From Matthew 11:29-30:" Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Shourchar or cape
Made of a beautifully textured and ornamented fabric, the cape is a symbol of the glory of the new spiritual life and a shield-like defense against evil.
